I've been collecting blank journals for a while, but I'm finally starting to use them now. Today, during my lunch break, I finished filling another Moleskine. What a great feeling! Of course, I moved right into the next journal without breaking my stride too much. This time, I'm using a wonderful blank journal handmade by Judy at five and a half. From her site:
HANDMADE, RECOLLECTED. We started with papers from old notepads, books and catalogs we liked so much we wanted to find a way to keep them. We ended up with a collection of handmade journals brimming with 100 pages of recollected papers like vellum, archival drawing paper, Chinese rice paper, and newsprint. Then we added a back pocket for looseleaf notes, receipts and other little things to be kept safely. To think, all these pieces of card and paper, someone else might have just thrown away.
It's truly fun to flip through one and see crossword puzzles, recipes, maps, grid paper, and other bits of goodies. Plus, it feels great to know that I'm giving new "life" and purpose to papers that were headed for the trash pile. Thanks, Judy, for creating such fantastic journals!
We have a friend from Buffalo visiting this weekend. We took her to Manchester, VT yesterday to check out the shops. I spent almost the entire time at Northshire Books. It was my second time there, so I already had some favorite sections of the store that I hit immediately. Of course, I had to buy a new blank journal. I used to just hoard journals, feeling too afraid to "soil" their pages with my blather. But, I'm finally over that and I'm actually going through my stash of them pretty quick now. I also bought a used copy of The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. I am fascinated by secret texts and pretty much anything having to do with turning Christianity on its ear. So, that purchase was a no-brainer. Now, I just have to make time to read it. Therein lies the problem. Maybe today?
