I bought a HUGE iced coffee on the way home (at 6 PM) and I'm still drinking it at 10 PM. Needless to say, I'm pretty wound up, so I don't think I'll be getting to bed anytime soon. I just wasn't thinking...
Music-wise, I cannot get enough of Brandi Carlile lately. I bought her latest cd The Story a while ago, and it has not left my cd player. Ohmygawd, this woman has talent. What a voice. Such raw emotion. I want to pick up her previous cd this Friday when I get out of work. Plus, she has a couple of independently released cds that I'll try to find on eBay or Amazon. I'm SO EXCITED about her upcoming concert in Burlington, VT on October 7. I bought tickets today. Lordy.
"Retirement:
Work like crazy doing something you're not passionate about so you can accumulate enough money to pay the bills from your stress-caused illnesses while you complain about what you should have done while you were still young."
Exactly. Sorry, but I don't know who the author is for this oh-so-true quote. I read it somewhere and had to immediately write it in my journal.
I've been in a funk for a couple of days now and am having a hard time climbing out of it.
I have been bitten by the travel bug. It bit me several times in the past, but it really went deep this time. My goal is to take a "volunteer vacation" next year. I'm thinking about Costa Rica where I can work with others to aid and track sea turtles. I'm not sure about it yet, but I definitely want to go SOMEWHERE and do SOMETHING. I have a lot of research to do and time to do it.
So...inspired by my friend Kolby's travels, journals and antiquarian travel guidebook collection, I recently started my own guidebook collection. Here it is so far. I've been lucky to find four of them on eBay and the other two at a local bookstore.
I found this on Cute Overload today. It just cracks me up. All the fluffiness!
This woman looks incredible...and she's a 70-year-old vegetarian!
Wow, I can't believe I haven't updated since February. Things with the new job have been hectic with training. Plus, I've been trying to tackle a lot of projects around the house.
The job is going very well. The training is pretty comprehensive, but it has been rather disjointed. The person who I'm in training with works in a different department at the agency, so she has been *transitioning* from her former role to her new role in my department. Because her old department was elbow-deep in major projects, they couldn't let her go right away. So, our training has been very choppy. I think that's coming to an end, though. Finally, we'll be able to finish. Other than that, all is well at the new place.
I'm home today recovering from foot surgery I had yesterday. Thank God for pain meds. My foot has been throbbing, although it does seem to be a tiny bit better today.
Last month, B and I had our contractor come back to build bookshelves in the library. They're so wonderful! It's great to finally have all of our books out of packing boxes. Here they are.
So, I gave my notice two days ago, and I'm counting down until next Friday. My former manager, who is the most ineffective and out-of-touch boss I've EVER had, got promoted in October and I've had a new manager since then. My new manager, recognizing that my former boss never gave me any training nor feedback (although I consistently asked for it), did her best to involve me in getting training, giving me feedback, meeting with me to go over my goals for the upcoming year, etc. I don't trust her one bit, but, I recognize that she has tried. Last week while I was "on vacation" the others in my department had to cover for me. My current boss now understands just how much I do around here and I was told she was a "basket case" while I was out. When I gave my notice, she put on her best face to congratulate me, but I know it was NOT what she wanted to hear. She told another member of my department, "L just gave her notice. We are FUCKED." (This made me smile!!!)
Anyhoo, my boss had to notify my former boss that I'm leaving (he is still HER boss). Yesterday, they discussed how they're going to handle getting the work done. Mr. Dumbass said that he just figured that he'd send his administrative assistant down to this department "for about an hour a day to tidy up." So...this is what I've been doing here for 17 months...tidying up. For an hour a day.
Someone, please hold me back.
I have to bite my tongue for eight more days. I just want all the pay that I have coming. God help that a-hole if he comes to talk to me. Arrrrrgh!!
I need to post a cute picture...need to lower my blood pressure right now. So, here's my kitty Jiro. Cat and mouse.
What's the most famous movie you've never seen?
Submitted by Mike.
I guess it would be Casablanca. I want to see it...someday. There are a bunch of "classics" that I haven't seen: Citizen Cane, An Affair to Remember, Vertigo. etc. Guess I should update my Netflix queue.
Yikes. Rather a sharp and thorny quote there. Things any more thrilling at the new job, now a few months... read more
